Doug Ford is the third provincial party leader to come to this riding of Northumberland/Peterborough South in the run-up to the June 7 provincial election.
The visit by Ford is planned for this coming Wednesday during lunchtime at the Cobourg Community Centre (CCC).
“I am excited to welcome our PCPO leader to Northumberland. We are excited to talk about our positive vision for real change in Ontario that puts the needs of our people first,” local riding PC candidate David Piccini stated in an e-mail interview.
”On Wednesday, April 18, I look forward to seeing folks at 12 noon at the CCC.”
While the Port Hope resident and political candidate initially supported Christine Elliott to head his Party, since the leadership race Piccini has pledged support for Ford.
“We are going to be offering the voters of Ontario a clear choice: four more years of Kathleen Wynne wasting their money, raising their taxes and hydro rates and driving jobs away from Ontario – or a government that brings relief to families and makes Ontario a place that is open for business again,” Piccini said.
Piccini is running against incumbent Liberal MPP Lou Rinaldi, NDP candidate Jana Papuckoski, Green Party candidate Jeff Wheeldon and Trillium Party candidate Derek Sharp.
Ontario Premier Wynne has not been in the riding recently nor has NDP leader Andrea Horwarth but Green Party leader Mike Schreiner was in Cobourg for the Party’s nomination meeting in February and the Ontario Trillium Party Leader Bob Yaciuk was in the riding the same month for the announcement of Derek Sharp’s candidacy.
